Manganese Detection

Detect airborne manganese with accurate measurement and analysis

What is

Manganese

Mn

Manganese is a chemical element with the symbol Mn and atomic number 25. People know it for its high strength, corrosion resistance, and key role in steel production. About 90% of the world’s manganese production goes into steel manufacturing, where it helps remove sulfur and oxygen impurities, making the steel more durable and resistant to corrosion. Manganese commonly occurs in nature, particularly in ores, and exists in several oxidation states ranging from -3 to +7. Manganese is a hard, brittle, silvery-white metal that reacts readily. Additionally, Manganese serves as an essential trace element for all living organisms, playing a key role in various biological processes.

Releasing Airborne Manganese In

Industry & Manufactory

Manganese Mining and Ore Processing
During the drilling, blasting, crushing, and transportation of manganese ores, these operations emit fine dust particles containing manganese. Once workers mine manganese ores, they often process them in smelting or refining facilities.
Ferroalloy Production
Ferroalloys such as ferromanganese (a combination of iron and manganese) form in electric arc furnaces at high temperatures.
Steel and Stainless Steel Manufacturing
Manganese adds to steel as an alloying element to improve the strength, hardness, and resistance to corrosion of steel products. During the steel-making process, high temperatures vaporize manganese, which can form fumes or dust.
Battery Manufacturing
The production of lithium-ion batteries may release small amounts of airborne manganese, particularly as dust, during the manufacturing and handling of manganese oxide or manganese-based materials used in battery cathodes.

X-ray Fluorescence (XRF)

Our Unique & Cutting-edge Technology

Scentroid’s X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) sensor helps you detect airborne manganese precisely and receive rapid results. X-ray Fluorescence technology is a proven analytical technique used to identify and quantify the elemental composition of materials. By measuring the intensity and energy of the emitted X-rays, analysts can determine the elemental composition and concentration of the elements present in the sample.

X-ray Excitation

High-energy X-rays are directed at the material

Electron Displacement

The X-rays knock out inner electrons from the atoms in the material.

Energy Emission

The atom becomes unstable, and outer electrons jump to fill the gaps, emitting energy in the form of X-ray fluorescence.

Element Identification

The emitted X-rays have unique energies depending on the element, allowing the instrument to detect and identify the elements present.

Airborne Lead Analyzer

Scentroid Lead Analyzer features unparalleled accuracy in detecting airborne lead and manganese in ambient air precisely and effectively.
