Zinc Detection

Detect airborne zinc with accurate measurement and analysis

What is

Zinc

Zn

Zinc is a chemical element with the symbol Zn and atomic number 30. The primary form of airborne zinc is zinc oxide (ZnO), which forms as a fine white powder or vapor when heating or exposing zinc metal to high temperatures. Airborne zinc particles typically measure very fine, with diameters in the micron (or smaller) range. This fine size enables them to remain suspended in the air for extended periods, making inhalation easier. Furthermore, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) sets a permissible exposure limit (PEL) for zinc oxide fumes at 5 mg/m³ over an 8-hour workday. Additionally, air monitoring plays a crucial role in ensuring that airborne zinc concentrations do not exceed recommended exposure limits.

Releasing Airborne Zinc In

Industry & Manufactory

Zinc Mining & Smelting
During the mining of zinc ores, such as sphalerite, the extraction process releases zinc dust and fumes into the air, especially when workers process ores at high temperatures.
Hot-Dip Galvanizing
Galvanizing involves dipping the metal into molten zinc, which creates zinc fumes. These fumes form when the molten zinc reacts with oxygen in the air.
Welding & Soldering
Welding and soldering zinc-coated metals or alloys produce zinc oxide fumes. This is especially common when welding galvanized steel, where the heat vaporizes the zinc coating and forms airborne zinc particles.

X-ray Fluorescence (XRF)

Our Unique & Cutting-edge Technology

Scentroid’s X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) sensor helps you detect airborne zinc precisely and receive rapid results. X-ray Fluorescence technology is a proven analytical technique used to identify and quantify the elemental composition of materials. By measuring the intensity and energy of the emitted X-rays, analysts can determine the elemental composition and concentration of the elements present in the sample.

X-ray Excitation

High-energy X-rays are directed at the material

Electron Displacement

The X-rays knock out inner electrons from the atoms in the material.

Energy Emission

The atom becomes unstable, and outer electrons jump to fill the gaps, emitting energy in the form of X-ray fluorescence.

Element Identification

The emitted X-rays have unique energies depending on the element, allowing the instrument to detect and identify the elements present.

Airborne Lead Analyzer

Scentroid Lead Analyzer features unparalleled accuracy in detecting airborne lead and zinc in ambient air precisely and effectively.
