Step Factor
Overview
A factor that is used to calculate proceeding dilutions during olfactometry analysis. A ratio of the current dilution to the step factor calculates the next dilution in the dilution series.
Example of Step Factors
Max dilution = 400
Min dilution=53
Step Factor = 1.5
Steps or Dilution Series = 6
Dilution | 400 | 267 | 178 | 118 | 79 | 53 |
Step Factor 1.5 | 400/1.5 = 267 | 267/1.5 = 178 | 178/1.5 =118 | 118/1.5 = 79 | 79/1.5 = 53 | |
Step/Dilution Series =6 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 |
