Arsenic Detection

Detect airborne arsenic with accurate measurement and analysis

What is

Arsenic

As

Arsenic is a chemical element with the symbol As and atomic number 33. In its elemental form, arsenic appears as a grayish, metallic solid. However, arsenic compounds can appear in various colors, such as white, yellow, or red. Arsenic occurs widely in nature, often in minerals associated with metals like copper, lead, gold, and zinc. It also exists in soil and water. Arsenic is highly toxic, especially in its inorganic form. Long-term exposure to arsenic can lead to a range of health problems, including cancer, skin damage, and neurological issues.

Releasing Airborne Arsenic In

Industry & Manufactory

Mining and Smelting
Arsenic often occurs in ores mined for metals. During smelting processes, especially in the extraction of metals like copper, the heat often volatilizes arsenic (turning it into gas) as arsenic trioxide (As₂O₃) or arsine gas (AsH₃). These arsenic compounds can enter the air as particulate matter or toxic gases.
Coal Combustion
Coal contains trace amounts of arsenic, which releases into the atmosphere during the combustion process at power plants. Similar to power plants, industrial facilities that burn coal for heating or energy generation can emit arsenic into the air.
Wood Preservation
People have used arsenic compounds, particularly chromated copper arsenate (CCA), for decades as a preservative in pressure-treated wood. When CCA-treated wood burns, whether in industrial boilers or waste incinerators, it releases arsenic into the air as fine particles or gases.

X-ray Fluorescence (XRF)

Our Unique & Cutting-edge Technology

Scentroid’s X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) sensor helps you detect airborne arsenic precisely and receive rapid results. X-ray Fluorescence technology is a proven analytical technique used to identify and quantify the elemental composition of materials. By measuring the intensity and energy of the emitted X-rays, analysts can determine the elemental composition and concentration of the elements present in the sample.

X-ray Excitation

High-energy X-rays are directed at the material

Electron Displacement

The X-rays knock out inner electrons from the atoms in the material.

Energy Emission

The atom becomes unstable, and outer electrons jump to fill the gaps, emitting energy in the form of X-ray fluorescence.

Element Identification

The emitted X-rays have unique energies depending on the element, allowing the instrument to detect and identify the elements present.

Airborne Lead Analyzer

Scentroid Lead Analyzer features unparalleled accuracy in detecting airborne lead and arsenic in ambient air precisely and effectively.

Airborne Metal Analyzer

Scentroid Metal Analyzer can accurately detect airborne arsenic and up to 30 other heavy metals of your choice, other light metals can also be detected as per request.
