The act of sampling is to obtain information on the typical characteristics of an odour source by means of the collection through the use of a sampler. The most important information about an emission source for odour impact assessment is the odour emission rate (OER), which represents the quantity of odour emitted per unit of time, and is expressed in odour units per second (ou·s−1).
