Mercury Detection

Detect airborne mercury with accurate measurement and analysis

What is

Mercury

Hg

Mercury is a chemical element with the symbol Hg and atomic number 80. It is the only metal that is liquid under standard conditions of temperature and pressure. Its liquid state is due to weak interatomic forces that allow its atoms to move more freely than in solid metals. Mercury is dense and heavy that used for making thermometers and barometers. It is also good conductor of electricity so it’s useful in electrical switches and some scientific equipment. Mercury is highly toxic that can damage the nervous system, kidneys, and brain. Once released into the air, it can travel long distances before settling into the soil or water, where it can convert to methylmercury.

Releasing Airborne Mercury In

Industry & Manufactory

Coal-fired Power Plants
The burning of coal is the largest source of airborne Hg. Coal naturally contains trace amounts of Hg, and when it is burned to generate electricity, it is released into the atmosphere as a vapor.
Non-ferrous Metal Smelting
Industries involved in the smelting and refining of metals like gold, silver, copper, and zinc can release mercury as a byproduct. Gold mining, in particular, uses mercury to extract gold from ore, releasing significant amounts of mercury into the air.
Waste Incineration
Incinerating waste, particularly municipal and medical waste that contains mercury-containing products like thermometers, fluorescent light bulbs, and batteries, can release mercury into the air.
Manufacturing
Factories that produce products that require mercury such as fluorescent light bulbs, thermometers, barometers. If mercury is released to air during manufacturing process, it can lead to toxic exposure to workers and community.

X-ray Fluorescence (XRF)

Our Unique & Cutting-edge Technology

Scentroid’s X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) sensor helps you detect airborne mercury precisely and receive rapid results. X-ray Fluorescence technology is a proven analytical technique used to identify and quantify the elemental composition of materials. By measuring the intensity and energy of the emitted X-rays, analysts can determine the elemental composition and concentration of the elements present in the sample.

X-ray Excitation

High-energy X-rays are directed at the material

Electron Displacement

The X-rays knock out inner electrons from the atoms in the material.

Energy Emission

The atom becomes unstable, and outer electrons jump to fill the gaps, emitting energy in the form of X-ray fluorescence.

Element Identification

The emitted X-rays have unique energies depending on the element, allowing the instrument to detect and identify the elements present.

Airborne Lead Analyzer

Scentroid Lead Analyzer features unparalleled accuracy in detecting airborne lead and mercury in ambient air precisely and effectively.

Airborne Metal Analyzer
