Cobalt Detection

Detect airborne cobalt with accurate measurement and analysis

What is

Cobalt

Co

Cobalt is a chemical element with the symbol Co and atomic number 27. It is a hard, shiny, silvery-blue metal with a relatively high density of 8.9 g/cm³. Cobalt is less reactive than some other transition metals but reacts with oxygen to form a layer of cobalt oxide when exposed to air. It resists corrosion in dry air but can oxidize in moist environments. In small amounts, cobalt is generally considered safe, but it can be toxic in high concentrations, especially when inhaled as dust or fumes.

Releasing Airborne Cobalt In

Industry & Manufactory

Mining & Refining
When workers mine, process, or refine cobalt ores, they can release dust and fumes containing cobalt into the air. Miners often extract cobalt as a byproduct of nickel and copper mining.
Welding & Metalworking
Welding, soldering, and cutting cobalt-containing materials or cobalt alloys produce fumes or particulate matter. This occurs frequently in industries like aerospace, manufacturing, and medical implant production.
Battery Manufacturing
The production of lithium-ion batteries, which often contain cobalt, may generate airborne particles when workers process or handle cobalt salts.

X-ray Fluorescence (XRF)

Our Unique & Cutting-edge Technology

Scentroid’s X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) sensor helps you detect airborne cobalt precisely and receive rapid results. X-ray Fluorescence technology is a proven analytical technique used to identify and quantify the elemental composition of materials. By measuring the intensity and energy of the emitted X-rays, analysts can determine the elemental composition and concentration of the elements present in the sample.

X-ray Excitation

High-energy X-rays are directed at the material

Electron Displacement

The X-rays knock out inner electrons from the atoms in the material.

Energy Emission

The atom becomes unstable, and outer electrons jump to fill the gaps, emitting energy in the form of X-ray fluorescence.

Element Identification

The emitted X-rays have unique energies depending on the element, allowing the instrument to detect and identify the elements present.

Airborne Lead Analyzer

Scentroid Lead Analyzer features unparalleled accuracy in detecting airborne lead and cobalt in ambient air precisely and effectively.

Airborne Metal Analyzer

Scentroid Metal Analyzer can accurately detect airborne cobalt and up to 30 other heavy metals of your choice, other light metals can also be detected as per request.
