Scentroid SM100i used in Sewage System Monitoring Project

The Scentroid SM100i was recently used in a study conducted by Andrzej Kulig, Mirosław Szyłak-Szydłowski, and Marta Wisniewska from the Warsaw University of Technology. The study focused on determining corrective actions to minimize odour nuisances. These came from sources identified in the sewage network operating in the Polish city of Bialystok. Researchers required portable devices that allowed for multiple odour intensity readings and immediate results. This study further promoted the overall use of field olfactometry as a tool for determining the ongoing relationship between the emission of noxious odours and the verification of complaints submitted by local residents.

“This method allows the detection of unwanted emissions of odours at individual points in the network in concentrations that are not detected by standard sensors but that nevertheless cause odour nuisances, complaints, and social conflict.”
