MAXIMUM EMISSION RATE

Here is a calculator to check if emissions from a stack can cause odor problems at a given distance from the stack.

Even when a stack is installed, odors may cause problems. During specific weather conditions, the emissions may travel long distances without being dispersed. This calculator checks whether an odor may be a problem at a given distance. The conclusions are conservative, and based on the guidelines from the Department of Environment and Conservation, NSW, Australia.

Emission data and concentration criteria:

This tool allows the estimation of the maximum recommended odour emission rate from a stack. It also takes into account, in a simplified way, the height of the terrain surrounding the stack, or a nearby building within a radius of ten stack heights. This procedure can be applied to simple situations, however complex geography and/or the presence of many buildings requires a full dispersion modelling study to be conducted.”
